After eight weeks, the Cincinnati Bengals (3-5) and the Las Vegas Raiders (2-6) have both struggled to find consistency this season. They face each other at Paycor Stadium on Sunday with the hosts hoping to return to winning ways while the Raiders have yet to string together two in a row.

Victories over the Giants and Browns, followed by a defeat to the Eagles, keeps the Bengals third in the AFC North. A 22-10 defeat to the Chargers last time out has the Raiders in a similar position in the AFC West - they are stuck in last place. You would expect more from two sides that aren’t exactly lacking in talent - Ja’Marr Chase and Brock Bowers sit in the top four player stats for wide receivers so far - Burrow is one the league’s leaders in passing yards and completion rate (70.3%).

Zac Taylor has five players listed either doubtful or questionable ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Raiders - none of them took part in Friday’s practice. Worryingly for the Bengals coach, one of them is wide receiver Tee Higgins, who picked up a quadriceps injury in training nine days ago and sat out the last game against the Eagles. Higgins, who has recorded 29 receptions for 341 receiving yards and three touchdowns in his five appearances, is listed as doubtful and did not take part in any of last week’s practice sessions.

Bengals wait on pair

Also doubtful are offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr and Zack Moss. Taylor gave an update on his injured players to the media: “It’s gonna be similar as it was last week with Orlando. To see where the week takes us. No worse off than it was going in. Just as the game went, just kinda got hit on it and felt some discomfort and it was not in his best interest to keep on playing. We’ll see where that goes during the week. The same with Tee, we’ll just take it day to day with him. There were some things he was trying to do Sunday morning and at the end of the day it was just smart to limit that. I’d say both were day to day”.

If Taylor decides not to risk Higgins, Taylor can call on Andrei Iosivas and Jermaine Burton to give Ja’Marr Chase a helping hand.

Elsewhere, Charlie Jones is questionable with a groin issue, as is Geno Stone, who is struggling to overcome a shin problem. There was some good news - Sam Hubbard and Amarius Mims returned to train as normal after recovering from their ills (hamstring and ankle respectively).
