Update:

Tyreek Hill appears to be fit to play in the Dolphins’ NFL season opener this weekend, as the wide receiver bids to kick-start his Miami career after a disappointing 2024 that ended in controversial circumstances.

What injury has Hill had?

Hill, who is listed by the Dolphins as suffering from an oblique and calf injury, missed all three of Miami’s preseason games. However, he was a full participant in practice on Friday, and has no designation on the team’s injury report for the Week 1 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.

“We look good”

Speaking to reporters on August 28, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Hill “looks great”, explaining: “We’ve been making sure that he was going to have no setbacks for next week. And yeah, we look good.”

On September 3, McDaniel added that Hill’s recovery has followed a “very good” process. “As long as the player who’s out is preparing on the heels of really, really good technical work, he can come back and not only be healthy but be better-suited to do his job,” McDaniel said.

“You got to work that relationship up”

Hill heads into the new season having endured an injury-hit 2024 in which he registered his lowest receiving figures since 2019.

What’s more, the 31-year-old has had to patch up his relationship with the Dolphins after removing himself from Miami’s Week 18 loss to the New York Jets and suggesting in a post-game interview that he planned to seek a move from Florida.

Hill later apologised for his remarks, putting them down to “frustration at Miami’s failure to make the playoffs in 2024. It was the first time in the wide receiver’s NFL career that he had not been involved in the postseason.

In the wake of his end-of-season comments, Hill has lost his status as a Dolphins captain in 2025. And in the words of team-mate Tua Tagovailoa, he has left himself with the task of “build[ing] everything back up again” in Miami.

“When you say something like that, you don’t just come back from that with, ‘Hey, my bad,’” Tagovailoa said in July, per ESPN. “You got to work that relationship up; you’ve got to build everything back up again.”
