Could Tom Brady return to the NFL? Ownership in the Las Vegas Raiders on standby
Though he continues to deny the idea, many believe the legendary quarterback could once again take to the field. He’s only got himself to blame for that.
Having signed a massive contract with FOX Sports to become an analyst for the network, Tom Brady effectively rubberstamped the finality of his retirement. Then came his intention to purchase a stake in the Las Vegas Raiders which seemed to emphasize the idea of his playing days being behind him. Yet, with the deal said to be up in the air still, speculation about a return is now rife.

If you’ve been following our reports, you will know that earlier in the offseason Tom Brady became the talk of the town as his intention to purchase a stake in the Las Vegas Raiders was revealed. Of course, as we now understand it, that deal is reportedly not over the line just yet. To be clear, limited partners must be approved by a three-fourths majority vote of NFL owners, and with the vote said to be a possibility when owners convene for a league meeting in October, it’s clear that there is still some ways to go.
Yet, it’s got to be said that Brady’s future foray into ownership or the snag that it’s hit is not what’s on the minds of NFL fans. No, it’s actually the by-product of the delay in Brady’s acquisition of a minority percentage of the team. Here’s the deal: Becoming a minority owner of the team will reportedly bar Brady from being able to play for any team in the league. With that in mind, fans have started to talk about whether that’s how things are going to go down. Just earlier this week you would have seen the rumors about Brady possibly replacing injured quarterback Aaron Rodgers in New York. The Jets’ new signal caller tore his Achilles four snaps into his first game with his new team. That fire was immediately snuffed out by reports which indicated that there was no possible way that Brady would be returning to a former rival in the AFC East. So, for all intents and purposes, the chatter continues.
Why is Tom Brady’s retirement hard to believe?
Last offseason, Tom Brady retired and then he famously unretired just 40 days later. Though he retired once again this offseason, one can imagine that there are a whole lot of doubts about whether that will remain the case. For his part, Brady has maintained that this time it’s for real, but stranger things have happened in the NFL.
Most recently, the seven-time Super Bowl winner was honored by his former team, the New England Patriots, during the Week 1 clash with the Philadelphia Eagles, the team that lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl earlier this year. As he ran out onto the field wearing his iconic No. 12 jersey, the sense of nostalgia was palpable. It wasn’t helped by him stating to the crowd on hand that he’s a Patriot for life.” Ultimately, it seems like Brady’s done, but with his stake in the Raiders still pending finalization, all we can say is what we always say, ‘watch this space.’ Of course, while Brady remains on the outside looking in, there’s still plenty of twists and to keep your attention, like Week 2′s action.
