Zachary Edward Martin is an American football guard for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. He played college football at Notre Dame, and in his final season, he was named team captain for the second time, becoming only the 18th player in school history to earn such an honor. He was named MVP of the 2013 Pinstripe Bowl after a 29–16 win over Rutgers, becoming the first offensive lineman since 1959 (Jay Huffman) to receive that distinction in a college bowl game.

Later, the Cowboys drafted him in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. In his 8 season long NFL career, he played 121 games, and during that time, he allowed only 12.5 sacks.

After electing to skip training camp this summer, Zack Martin, a prominent NFL right guard, has secured a well-deserved salary increase that accurately reflects his exceptional performance on the field. Despite being in his thirties, Martin has sustained a preeminent production level, garnering back-to-back All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in 2021 and 2022.

However, due to the limitations of his previous contract, Martin fell behind other top-notch guards in terms of average annual salary and was keen to rectify that by holding out of camp. Ultimately, he successfully negotiated a deal to compensate him with over $18 million per year, representing a raise of over $8 million. Although Martin incurred fines throughout his holdout, he remains one of the NFL’s most elite athletes and has been rightfully rewarded for his offensive and defensive abilities.

According to multiple reports, Martin has agreed to a new two-year contract extension that includes salaries of over $18 million for 2023 and 2024. Martin was previously set to earn $13.5 million and $14 million in the next two years. However, some of his new earnings will go towards daily fines of $50,000 he accumulated during training camp, which cannot be waived.

Martin can rejoin the Cowboys at training camp and prepare with his teammates for their first regular season game against the New York Giants.
