Australia still top of medal table
Having won their third gold of the 2024 Olympics, China have drawn level with Australia's haul so far.
The Australians remain top of the medal table, though, as they have two silvers to China's none.
Another gold for China
We have the first medal winners of day two! In shooting, China’s Yu Xie has earned his country its third gold of the Paris Games, after taking victory in the men’s 10m air pistol final.
The podium is completed by two Italians: Federico Maldini has taken silver, with Paolo Monna winning bronze.
Italy now have five medals at Paris 2024 - but are yet to claim their first gold.
Australia's trio of wins saw them leapfrog China at the top of the medal, after the Chinese had established themselves as the early frontrunners by claiming the first two golds of the games.
In shooting, Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao won the first gold medal at Paris 2024 when they were victorious in the final of the mixed team 10m air rifle event.
Soon afterwards, divers Yani Chang and Yiwen Chen won the women’s synchronised 3m springboard final.
Australia top medal table on day one
Australia lead the medal count after day one, having picked up three gold medals.
Two came in swimming: Ariarne Titmus took gold in the women’s 400m freestyle, and there was also Australian glory in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay. Titmus retained the title she won at Tokyo 2020, while the relay win was Australia's fourth in a row in the event!
In road cycling, meanwhile, Grace Brown was victorious.
Aside from the medal events taking place today, there will of course be plenty of other action at Paris 2024.
Indeed, a total of 25 sports will witness competition. Should you be eager for the full lowdown on what's happening on day two, let me point you in the direction of our full Olympics schedule.
