Starting this week, the 33rd summer Olympic Games get underway in the French capital as nearly 11,000 athletes hailing from 206 different nations will compete for gold across 329 events at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This will be the third time that Paris has staged the Games, but the first in a century. The French city was the venue for the second modern Summer Olympics in 1900, before repeating hosting duties 24 years later.

This year, Team USA will look to continue its dominance of the Olympics medal table. The Americans have led the standings at six of the last seven Summer Games, including each of the last three. In Tokyo in 2021, USA pipped China to top spot, earning one more gold medals than the Chinese (39 to 38).

Last minute trip to the French capital?

For any sports fans planning a last minute trip to Paris, the good news is that on the ticketing-front many tickets still remain for a multitude of events including some of the high profile show-piece track and field athletics finals such as the 100m and 1500m finals.

Other sports away from track and field also see plenty of availability of the Paris 2024 ticket portal including the likes of: rugby sevens, handball, volleyball, basketball, football, hockey, boxing, badminton, table tennis, judo, cycling, golf, weightlifting, canoe slalom, canoe sprint, rowing, diving, swimming, water polo and sailing.

Few bargains remain

Fans looking to attend the available events may have to dig deep with few sports having competitively priced tickets for sale and although there are men’s 100-metre final tickets available, prices do start from €295.

However, if you are prepared to consider some alternative sports, the likes of the men’s and women’s soccer qualifying groups have tickets available for as little as €25 with women’s rugby sevens matches also competitively priced with tickets available for as little as €30 and a number of women’s handball games on sale for €50.

So far, 8.8 million Olympic tickets for Paris 2024 have been sold but sports fans still have a window of opportunity to enjoy some Olympic history at close quarters.
