The day of the men’s 100m at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 has come. At 3:50 p.m. ET, the fastest man in the World will race to see who will wear the coveted men’s sprinter Olympic Champion title.

The last time a US athlete won the men’s 100-meter race at the Olympics was in 2004 with Justin Gatlin. After that, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt had a dominant run, winning three consecutive times in 2008, 2012, and 2016, a feat unmatched in history. In the last Olympics, Marcell Jacobs from Italy surprised everyone by winning the men’s 100m race.

The question now is whether Jacobs can defend his Olympic title and join the ranks of American Carl Lewis and Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt, the only other men to have won multiple gold medals in the 100m at the Olympics.

To do so, he must fend off strong competition, including the USA’s Noah Lyles, who is hungry for his first Olympic gold after winning 200m bronze in Tokyo 2020. Lyles, the reigning double sprint world champion, aims for success in the 100m competition as a stepping stone toward his goal of four Olympic titles in Paris.

However, he faces tough competition this year, as Jamaica’s 2024 champion, Kishane Thompson, set a world-leading time of 9.77 seconds in the Olympic trials in Kingston, making him the third fastest man this year.
