Update:

When Team USA’s women’s figure skating trio took the Olympic ice in Italy, they didn’t just get a standard broadcast intro. They got Taylor Swift.

The pop superstar lent her voice to a cinematic promotional video introducing the American skaters ahead of the women’s short program, instantly elevating the moment beyond a traditional Olympic preview.

The trio - Amber Glenn, Alysa Liu and Isabeau Levito - already entered the Games with significant expectations. But Swift’s narration reframed their journey in a way that made it feel like a character-driven feature film.

The video leaned into storytelling, spotlighting each skater’s personal path to the Olympics. The tone mirrored Swift’s latest album (The Life of a Show Girl) aesthetic, blending resilience, reinvention and ambition, themes that naturally align with elite figure skating.

Rather than simply listing accomplishments, the narration emphasized growth, setbacks, and belief, turning the “Blade Angels,” as the trio has been dubbed, into something of protagonists.

Swift’s involvement tapped into several overlapping fan bases: Olympic viewers, figure skating traditionalists, and of course, Swift’s massive global audience.

It also reinforced how the Olympics are evolving. Athlete branding now extends far beyond competition. Presentation and storytelling are important, and attaching one of the most recognizable voices in entertainment to Team USA’s intro instantly expanded its cultural reach.

Glenn and Liu already secured gold in the team event, and Levito entered with medal aspirations. So Swift’s promotional video put them in the spotlight spotlight without adding competitive pressure.
