With the help of a Michael Jackson-inspired routine that has since gone viral, USA Artistic Swimming was able to make it to the finals at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris where it clinched its first medal in the event since the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Team USA returns to the podium in Artistic Swimming

Wednesday marked an incredible climax for Team USA in the women’s artistic swimming team competition as the team secured a silver medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics. As mentioned above, this is in fact the first time that the nation has medaled in artistic swimming since 2004 and is actually the team’s best finish since the silver medal that it won at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

It was China, a nation that is traditionally among the best in the event that took gold with a score of 996.1389, though it should be said it was the nation’s first time winning a gold medal. Team USA, with a score of 914.3421, some 81 points behind were fresh off of a sensational performance on Monday in which they utilized the late and legendary Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” while showcasing his iconic ‘moonwalk’ underwater. It was Spain who took the bronze medal.

Now that the team competition has concluded, the Americans will look to the talents of Jaime Czarkowski and Megumi Field who they hope will be able to secure another medal in the duet segment of the competition which will be held on Friday and Saturday. As we always say, watch this space.
