The controversy surrounding Simone Biles’ husband: What did Jonathan Owens say that annoyed fans?
Simone Biles and Jonathan Owen met in 2020 and married in the spring of 2023. His comments about his wife on a podcast drew a negative response from some fans but she saw the funny side.
There is nothing better than being supported by your loved ones, and that is the case of Simone Biles and her husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens.
The 29-year-old player took a break from his training camp to watch his wife competing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. “It’s like everyone’s a gymnastics fan now. People are asking me questions because you might be walking around the building and see a commercial with her up there, so it’s just crazy,” said the NFL player.
However, being in the spotlight sometimes comes with consequences. Owens has been the subject of criticism over the last year after some comments he made regarding his relationship with Biles.
What did Jonathan Owens say?
Last December, the couple appeared on “The Pivot” podcast, hosted by Ryan Clark, former NFL and New York Giants, Washington Redskins and Pittsburgh Steelers player.
During the show, Owens said that when they initially connected via a dating app back in 2020, during his time with the Houston Texans, he didn’t know who Simone Biles was. What’s more, Owens also said he was the “catch” in the relationship. Unfortunately for him, the interview went viral, and the negative comments on social media didn’t take long to surface.
After the wave of criticism which he received, Biles had to speak about the situation because the 27-year-old athlete couldn’t understand the reasons for the criticism. “I was laughing, and I’m like, ‘He’s so cute’ because, at the end of the day, there’s nothing wrong with him saying that he’s a catch because he is, like, the best guy I’ve ever met,” said Biles.
