The 400 hurdles specialist and reigning Olympic Champion hopes to keep writing history at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levron is one of those athletes who makes things look easy. As expected, the American has been outstanding in the 400m hurdles at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In the preliminary rounds, she qualified first with a time of 53.60. In the semifinals, she finished 1.7 seconds ahead of her rival in the heat, with a time of 52.13. McLaughlin is only one step from retaining the gold medal she won at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
What’s more, the 25-year-old athlete is also the world record holder in the event with a time of 50.65. She broke the record during the US Olympic Team Trials in track and field on June 30, 2024. “I’m definitely a little surprised it happened, but I’m still grateful. I knew I was in the 50.5 range, (but) it was just a matter of getting that stride pattern”, said the athlete after the race. Curiously, the last person to hold the world record in the 400m hurdles race was also McLaughlin, who established it in July 2022
