Update:

Men’s golf gets underway on Thursday at Le Golf National with a stacked field set to battle for the golf medal. With 60 golfers representing 32 countries, fans will be treated to a 72-hole stroke-play tournament, just as you would witness on the PGA Tour.

So, who is David Puig?

The simple answer would be, a future star of the game. Born in La Garrida, Spain in late 2001, David Puig showed promise in the game early on as he went on to build a successful junior career, representing his country at numerous international events. Among those were the European Boys Team Championship and the European Amateur Championship. In addition to that, Puig also played in the Junior Ryder Cup and Arnold Palmer Cup for the European side, gaining invaluable experience at the world level early on.

As his career progressed a move to the United States became the natural progression. To that end, in 2019 he enrolled at Arizona State University where he earned a spot on the Sun Devils’ team. Not long after, the team’s efforts paid off when they made the NCAA Championships in 2022, with Puig himself winning on three occasions during his collegiate career. It was on the basis of that success that the young Spaniard decided to cut his time in college short, turning instead to the professional game where he joined the LIV Golf League and Asian Tours.

What came next was his first victory in October of 2023, when he came out on top of an intense battle to win the International Series Singapore. His next victory wouldn’t take long in coming either as he clinched the title at the IRS Prima Malaysian Open in early 2024 on the back of shooting a pair of 62s. At present, Puig plays for Fireballs GC in the LIV Golf League where he is captained by his countryman and former Masters winner (2017), Sergio Garcia. Of course, what he faces now is not a matter of club, but country as he prepares to take on perhaps the biggest challenge of his career so far, the Olympic Games.
