Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz will face Norwegian or Canadian opposition in the semi-finals of the Olympics’ men’s singles tennis tournament, after the 21-year-old saw off the United States’ Tommy Paul in straight sets in Paris.

Alcaraz through after second-set fightback

After winning the first set of today’s quarter-final, Alcaraz recovered from 4-1 down in the second set to seal victory at Roland Garros. Having taken set two to a tiebreak, the Spaniard closed out the match by winning the breaker 9-7.

Alcaraz prevailed 6-3, 7-6 on Court Phillipe-Chatrier, the arena in which he claimed the first French Open title of his career in early June.

Who will Alcaraz play in the semi-finals?

Chasing gold in his debut appearance at the Olympics, Alcaraz will meet Norway’s Casper Ruud or Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime in the semi-finals in the French capital.
