Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz will face Canadian opposition in the semi-finals of the Olympics’ men’s singles tennis tournament, after the 21-year-old saw off the United States’ Tommy Paul in straight sets in Paris.

Alcaraz through after second-set fightback

After winning the first set of today’s quarter-final, Alcaraz recovered from 4-1 down in the second set to seal victory at Roland Garros. Having taken set two to a tiebreak, the Spaniard closed out the match by winning the breaker 9-7.

Alcaraz prevailed 6-3, 7-6 on Court Phillipe-Chatrier, the arena in which he claimed the first French Open title of his career in early June.

Who will Alcaraz play in the semi-finals?

Chasing gold in his debut appearance at the Olympics, Alcaraz will meet Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime in the semi-finals in the French capital.

Auger-Aliassime beats Ruud to set up Alcaraz tie

Auger-Aliassime secured his semi-final place with victory over Norway’s Casper Ruud today. The 23-year-old saw off Ruud in three sets on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, winning 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.

In the men’s singles tournament’s other last-four clash, Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti will face either the Serbian top seed Novak Djokovic or Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Musetti beat defending champion Alexander Zverev on Suzanne-Lenglen today, downing the German No. 3 seed 7-5, 7-5.
