Trinity Rodman and Karin Albert were on target for the USWNT today, as Emma Hayes’ team secured maximum points in the group stage with a 2-1 win in Marseille. Alanna Kennedy pulled one back late on for the Australians, who finished third in Group A.

With the two best third-placed teams qualifying for the last eight in France, the Matildas must now wait to find out whether their total of three points will be enough to take them into the knockout stages.

In their recent Olympics match-up, the nations met in the 2012 gold-medal match in London, where Carli Lloyd’s brace earned the USWNT a 2-1 triumph.
