Defending champion Rory Mclroy and PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas have spoken at their respective press conferences ahead of Thursday’s opening round of the 2022 Canadian Open. As Golf Canada and RBC confirmed the final field vying for the US$8.7 million dollar purse, it is a welcome golfing distraction in the shadow of the controversial LIV invitational also taking place this weekend in London.

You may be racking your brain trying to remember the Irish star lifting the trophy last year. Allow me to put you out of your misery...he didn’t. It’s been over 1,000 days due to cancellations of the tournament because of the global pandemic, since McIlroy won in 2019 and the current world no. 7 is back in Canada looking to defend his title against a strong field of PGA Tour stars led by world no. 1 and 2022 Master champion Scottie Scheffler. We’ll also see the world no. 3 and 2022 The Players champion Cam Smith, world no. 4 and 2022 PGA champion Justin Thomas and world no. 9 Sam Burns, a 3-time PGA Tour winner in 2022. Check out the full list so that you know who to follow.

When is the 2022 Canadian Open?

The 2022 Canadian Open takes place across June 6-12 at St. George’s Golf and Country Club, which will act in partnership with the nearby Islington Golf Club as the official practice facility.

What are the tee times for the 2022 Canadian Open?

First out at St. George’s will be the group consisting of Scott Piercy, Kevin Stadler and Harry Higgs, who get the action underway at 7am. They are followed by Jason Dufner, Vaughn Taylor and Rafa Cabrera Bello.

The defending champion McIlroy joins in the fun a short while later along with US star Justin Thomas and local contender, Corey Conners. No doubt that group will have a decent following.

You can find out all the tee times at your local time.
