2022 FedEx Cup BMW Championship: How is the course and what is the prize money?
The 2022 FedEx Cup playoffs are headed to Wilmington, Delaware for the BMW Championship. How much prize money are the competitors playing for?
PGA players are off to the second event of the FedEx Cup playoffs- the BMW Championship. The top 70 are eligible to compete, but the field is now down to 68 after number three Cameron Smith withdrew due to hip discomfort and Tommy Fleetwood backed out due to personal reasons.
The golfers are currently led by Will Zalatoris, who had a convincing victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis last week and clinched his first PGA Tour title. World number one Scottie Scheffler, betting favorite Rory McElroy, and former number one Jordan Spieth will play at Wilmington after not making the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
BMW Championship prize money
The total purse of the BMW Championship is $15 million, up from last year’s $9.5 million, with the winner taking home $2.7 million. This is the standard winner’s 18 percent payout according to PGA Tour guidelines. All golfers who manage to finish four rounds of the competition will receive prize money.
The winner of the event will receive 2,000 FedEx Cup points, and the top 30 in points following the competition will move on to the Tour Championship in Atlanta, Georgia.
BMW Championship course
The BMW Championship will take place at Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware. The par 71 course has a yardage of 7,534. The venue has never hosted a PGA Tour event, so almost all the participants have not played a competitive round on it.
The course is routed on rolling terrain, giving players good views of a big part of the whole course. The landscape provides a variety of holes, with short par 4s like No. 11, and more difficult longer par 4s like the fifth. There is also a varied selection of par 3s.
