‘Tis the season for the playoffs at the PGA Tour after an eventful year and four major championships. The 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship will tee off at TPC Southwind outside of Memphis, Tennessee on Thursday.

Three LIV players, Talor Gooch, Matt Jones, and Hudson Swafford wanted take part in the playoffs after leaving the PGA, and sought a temporary restraining order from the courts to be able to do so. U.S. District Court Judge Beth Freeman ruled against them, saying that they were well aware of the costs of leaving the association.

LIV Golf officials expressed disappointment at the decision, while the PGA Tour said their players can now focus on competing in the FedExCup.

2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship: Narrowed down field

One hundred twenty five players made the cut for the postseason, but four will not participate this weekend- Daniel Berger, Tommy Fleetwood, Lanto Griffin, and Nate Lashley- leaving a field of 121.

They will be competing for a total purse of $15 million, with the winner taking home $2.7 million in prize money.

Scottie Scheffler is an easy favorite due to his big lead in the standings. He has a tally of 3,556 points, way ahead of Cam Smith who sits at number two with 2,335.

Sixth-ranked Rory McIlroy is going for the history books by becoming the first player to ever with three FedExCup Championships. He has been playing excellently since June, followed by number seven Tony Finau (the event’s defending champion) and Xander Schauffele, who is currently number four in the rankings.

The challenges at PC Southwind

The course at TPC Southwind is 7,244 yards long, with 94 bunkers and ten water hazards. In 2011, the course was ranked ninth most difficult out of 51 courses, with Hole No.14 at 239 yards considered one of the most challenging par threes in PGA competitions.
