2022 Presidents Cup: Who is competing for the US and International teams?

The 2022 Presidents Cup will be held from September 22-25 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte Carolina, and both the US and international teams have completed their lineup for the golf competition.

The Americans are heavy favorites to win the biennial contest, especially after the international team lost key players including world number two and reigning Open champion Cameron Smith of Australia, after they joined the controversial LIV Golf Series.

Team USA, the favored ones

Six golfers from the United States automatically qualified for the roster after earning the most FedEx Cup points- Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Sam Burns, Justin Thomas and Tony Finau.

The other six were chosen by team captain Davis Love III- Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, Billy Horschel, Cameron Young and Kevin Kisner.

The US team is young, with an average age of 29.6. Their members are also ranked high in the world- the team’s average rank is 11.8.

Feeling the effects of LIV Golf

The international squad thus faces a daunting task ahead of them. The team’s average ranking is 48.8, brought way down with the non-inclusion of second-ranked Smith and Joaquin Niemann of Chile, who is ranked 19th in the world.

Team captain Trevor Immelman of South Africa named K.H. Lee, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Sebastian Munoz, Taylor Pendrith, Cam Davis and Si Woo Kim to complete the international lineup.

They join Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Joohyung Kim, Corey Conners, Adam Scott and Mito Pereira, who had earned automatic spots on the team.
