2023 US Open: Inside the ropes at the final round on Sunday from Los Angeles Country Club

It’s Sunday at the 2023 US Open at the Los Angeles Country Club. Rickie Fowler is playing some great golf, but he has some serious contenders right behind him. The course is beautiful, unique and challenging and we are lucky enought to talk to professional caddie and TV spotter Shawn McMahon for some insight on and off the course in LA this week.

How was the experience with Tom Kim?

Yeah, I got to follow his group yesterday. He made the front nine look really easy. He never made any mistakes and just made it look like a walk in the park. He obviously played great and shows you that an early round tomorrow could make a move. He struggled a bit on the back, but so does everyone.

You could be right about 13-under, any thoughts?

I’m still liking my prediction. I can’t see anyone going low today and if one of the leaders can go 4-under par, they’ll win for sure. The pin placements are brutal, so I don’t think we’ll see anyone go low today.

Who’s your pick to win?

Still going with Rory, after dumping Rahm. Rickie Fowler is a great story and we’d all like him to win, but at the same time everyone is just waiting for his wheels to fall off. Wyndham Clark is obviously playing great, but you need experience and nerves of steel to get it done at a major.

Who can reasonably win? 5 back? 6 back?

I think 5 or 6 back could win, but I think someone from the last two groups will get the job done. As I’ve said before, it’s going to be hard to go low. If Dustin Johnson or Scottie Scheffler can get to 10-under par, then anything can happen.

General thoughts, observations on Sunday?

The back 9 is playing so much harder than the front 9. The winner will need to take advantage of that and go low on the front because there’s not a lot of opportunities on the back. The crowds aren’t your typical US open crowds and the atmosphere has been taking some hits on social media but it’s LA, it’s still a good scene.
