2023 US Open: Who plays today August 31? Match times for Alcaraz, Pegula, Keys
The US Open Day 4 will feature some interesting matches, with the return of the current champion Carlos Alcaraz.
The fourth day of competition will bring tennis fans another interesting round of top matches in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Two of the main candidates for the title, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud, suffered shocking exits after losing to Dominic Stricker and Zhizhen Zhang, respectively.
The Greek star was outpowered by the young Swiss player in five sets, while the current US Open runner-up had to say goodbye after five hard-fought sets against the Chinese.
The Americans Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz easily defeated Sebastian Ofner and Juan Pablo Varillas in straight sets, although Tommy Paul had to fight till the end to avoid elimination against Roman Safiulin.
Meanwhile, the current titleholder and world No. 1 Iga Swiatek had little trouble beating Daria Saville, and Cori Gauff got the job done in two sets against Mirra Andreeva.
Caroline Wozniacki, who returned to the competition some weeks ago after a long break from the tennis courts, advanced to the next round by beating Petra Kvitova, and Taylor Townsend, cheered by the fans, defeated the talented Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Spanish superstar Carlos Alcaraz is back in action to face the South African heavy hitter Lloyd Harris, who dispatched Guido Pella in the first round.
The Murcia native had an easy debut in this year’s edition, as his opponent, Dominik Koepfer, retired in the second set due to injury when he was already one set down.
But besides watching Carlitos at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, fans will be able to watch some other top-quality games.
Hubert Hurkacz and Jack Draper will battle it out in one of the best games of the day in the men’s category, as well as the Andy Murray-Grigor Dimitrov and the Gael Monfils-Andrey Rublev matches.
As for women, world No. 3 Jessica Pegula will face the Romanian Patricia Maria Tig, Aryna Sabalenka will take on the Brit Jodie Burrage, and another American, Madison Keys, will challenge Yanina Wickmayer.
