2023 US Open: Who plays today September 4? Match times for Alcaraz, Pegula, Medvedev...
The US Open enters the second week, with exciting Round 4 matches featuring some of the favorite players to win the trophy.
After one week of play, most of the favorites have made it to the event’s second week. Now, they will have to deal with the toughest opponents if they want to go all the way in the fourth and last Grand Slam tournament of the year.
On the last day of play in the men’s category, there were no major surprises, except Ben Shelton pulling off the upset against the more experienced Tommy Paul. In an all-American clash, the 20-year-old Shelton proved too strong for a player who’s known for his consistency, especially on hard courts.
Besides that, Frances Tiafoe easily defeated Rinky Hijikata, while Taylor Fritz and Novak Djokovic advanced to the next round by beating Dominic Stricker and Borna Gojo, respectively, in straight sets. Nole, who needed five sets to come out on top against fellow countryman Laslo Djere, this time was merciless against his opponent.
As for women, the biggest surprise happened in the latest game of the day, as Jelena Ostapenko eliminated the world No. 1 and current US Open champion Iga Swiatek in three sets.
The Latvian came back from one set down to win the next two in brilliant fashion. She will now face the public’s favorite Cori Gauff.
Today’s menu includes some great matchups that will bring the best out of the players. One of the best young players in the ATP, Jack Draper will go head-to-head with Andrey Rublev, while Carlos Alcaraz will take on the standout player so far, Matteo Arnaldi.
Another of the favorites, Daniil Medvedev, will face Alex De Miñaur in a match where the Russian will try to avenge his loss to the Australian at the ATP Masters 1000 Canada, Toronto.
And to close the game in style, one of the best games tennis fans can see nowadays, Alexander Zverev vs Jannik Sinner.
In the women’s category, one of the youngest and most promising American players, Peyton Stearns, is proving to everyone that her good results this year haven’t been a coincidence. She will face the 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova, while the Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula game promises to be a close battle where both players will be supported by the home crowd.
Later on, Ons Jabeur will take on the Chinese Qinwen Zheng, and Daria Kasatkina will face the No. 1 favorite to win the trophy Aryna Sabalenka, after Swiatek’s elimination.
