Update:

Tennis fans are in for a treat at the US Open in New York as Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz might set up a blockbuster Grand Slam final. On Friday, the second-seeded Djokovic will face Ben Shelton, an unseeded and 47th-ranked player from the US, who is making his debut in a Major semifinal.

The semifinal lineup is particularly intriguing due to the contrast among the players. While Djokovic, Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev hold the top three seeds and rankings, Ben Shelton’s Cinderella run to the semis is remarkable. This year’s tournament has added an extra layer of excitement as the top three players in the men’s bracket reached the final four in Flushing Meadows, a feat last achieved in 2011.

Shelton, a 20-year-old rising star born in Georgia, made a name for himself by winning the NCAA singles title for the University of Florida in 2022. However, he has yet to win a Grand Slam trophy, let alone the prestigious US Open title. In stark contrast, Djokovic has an incredible record of 23 major championships, while Alcaraz has secured two and Medvedev one. Djokovic has won titles in 2011, 2015, and 2018 and has also finished as the runner-up six times. Medvedev, the reigning champion, won in 2021 and was runner-up in 2019, while Alcaraz is the defending champion.
