The Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. hosts the annual Wyndham Championship. This esteemed golf tournament, founded in 1938, is the seventh-oldest event on the PGA TOUR, not including the Majors. It holds the distinction of being North Carolina’s oldest professional golf competition, with the 84th edition taking place in 2023. Currently, the PGA Tour’s final regular season event is underway.
After one round of play at the 2023 Wyndham Championship, Russell Henley is currently in the lead with a score of -8.
Several notable golfers are competing at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina to secure a spot in the top 70 of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Among them is Justin Thomas, who played his first Tour event at this venue in 2009 as a 16-year-old. Thomas is participating in the Wyndham Championship for the first time since 2016 and started the week with an even-par 70 despite battling rain throughout the morning.
Adam Scott, who needs a strong performance to qualify for the postseason, shot a 5-under 65. Despite a mixed season, Scott is ranked No. 39 in the Official World Golf Ranking, guaranteeing his participation in all four majors in 2024. However, he is currently ranked outside the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings, at No. 81. He will need an outstanding performance at the Wyndham Championship to make it to the playoffs.
In the opening round, Scott made four birdies in his first nine holes, but he will need to make more in the second round to contend for the title. On Friday, he will tee off at 1:00 p.m. ET with Shane Lowry and Justin Thomas.
