When thinking about the British Open, only one word comes to mind: history. Since its first edition in 1860, the competition has seen 151 champions, the last of whom was the American Brian Harman in the 2023 edition, with a total score of 271.

It is time to write a new chapter in that history and crown The Open’s 152nd champion, and what better way than at the Royal Troon Golf Club in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The course is considered to be one of the most unique on the PGA Tour thanks to its classic architecture and its “Postage Stamp” par-3 8th hole, the shortest in the competition. What’s more, this will be Troon’s tenth time hosting The Open and the sixth since obtaining the “Royal” status.

The last time Troon hosted The Open was in 2016, when Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson emerged victorious. More recently, the course saw Sophia Popov’s victory in the 2020 Women’s British Open. This 2024 edition will see players like Scottie Scheffler, ranked number 1 in the PGA, and golf legends like Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods at Troon in what promises to be a full four-day experience for golf fans.

How much does a round cost at Royal Troon?

Golf players are aware that the Old Course can be a rather expensive round. According to the Royal Troon’s official website, a standard 18-holes on the Old Course has a fee of $369 (£285) for PGA members, while the price for the Portland Course, further to the north, reduces to $123 (£95).

There is another option whereby PGA members can purchase a day ticket for $441 (£340), which includes one round on the Portland Course and one on the Old Course. That’s a saving of $51 (£40).

Can non-members play at Royal Troon?

Yes! Non-members can play on the Old Course, but there are some things to consider before booking related to prices and availability.

The price for a standard 18-hole game on the Old Course rises to $473 (£365) per golfer, while the Portland Course fee increases to $162 (£125). The day ticket is also available for non-member golfers, and the price rises to $544 (£420) per player.

Note that players must also produce a handicap certificate before booking. Men must have a handicap of 20 or lower, while women must have a handicap of no more than 30. Availability is limited, and booking as soon as possible is recommended so as not to miss out on everything the circuit offers.
