As the FedEx Cup playoffs are near, the PGA Tour is seeing some unexpected changes and withdrawals. Cam Davis pulled out of the tournament on Monday, leaving a leaderboard featuring defending champion Sepp Straka, recent contender Aaron Rai, and Jordan Spieth. Our thoughts are with Patrick Cantlay, who suffered an injury during a training session. Cantlay has been showing improvement at the US Open in Cromwell, and we hope we’ll see him in good form at The Open.

The PGA Tour, coming back to the Quad Cities, will also feature two-time event winner, Jordan Spieth, last year’s victor Sepp Straka, and Jason Day for the first time since 2011.

Jordan Spieth is in 59th place in the FedEx Cup standings heading into this week. He added this tournament to his schedule, clearly needing to improve his ranking. At 59th, he isn’t secure for the Top 70 and must earn points to break into the top 50 to guarantee his place in Signature Events. Despite the struggles, Spieth remains a player sponsor, and fans hope to see him in top competitions. Despite inconsistencies in Spieth’s game, he still commands attention. This year, he has only one top-10 finish outside the pre-season tournaments, and his game has been erratic. Rumors have circulated about a lingering wrist issue impacting his performance more than he’s admitted publicly.

The current landscape sees several players in form, like Sunjae Im, who is playing his best golf this season. Despite missing all three major cuts, his non-major performances have been stellar. Sepp Straka continues to impress, maintaining his form since winning last year’s event. Straka shot a nine-under 62 to come out victorious over Brendon Todd and Alex Smalley last year. He ultimately won by two shots despite having a double bogey on the 72nd hole. He now has the opportunity to become the first repeat winner at the TPC Deere Run classic since Steve Stricker won three times in a row from 2009 to 2011.
