2024 Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass Round 3 Saturday tee times and pairings
The tournament is underway at TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course, with Round 2 being suspended due to darkness.
The 2024 Players Championship is expected to resume its action on a Saturday that promises to be thrilling. Some of the best players in the world have gathered at TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course, in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, for the 50th anniversary of the event.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and reigning FedExCup champion Viktor Hovland are some of the biggest names that are competing in the tournament.
As for now, Wyndham Clark has a four-stroke lead after Friday by matching his first-round 65 to reach 14-under, while Nick Taylor and Xander Schauffele sit in second at 10-under. Matt Fitzpatrick and Maverick McNealy remain one back of them.
Will Zalatoris and Justin Thomas made their comebacks at the Players, but they won’t continue playing this weekend after they missed the cut. Round 2 was suspended due to darkness.
Scheffler wants to make history despite a neck issue
Scottie Scheffler looks to become the first golfer to ever go back-to-back at The Players after his victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. However, things haven’t played out the way he expected before the start of the tournament.
The American golfer had to sit in a lawn chair behind the 14th tee with a physical trainer massaging his neck. He ended his performance on Friday with a 3-under 69 that left him 8-under for the tournament, six behind leader Wyndham Clark (65).
“Yeah, I hit a shot on my second hole today (the 11th) and I felt a little something in my neck, and then I tried to hit my tee shot on 12, and that’s when I could barely get the club back,” Scheffler explained.
If he manages to lift the trophy, he will take home $4.5 million, the same amount of money he earned last year, when he lifted the trophy after a score of minus-17, which was five strokes better than second-place Tyrrell Hatton.
