2024 Sony Open in Hawaii: Round 2 Friday tee times, pairings and featured groups

The second round of the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii will take place on Friday, January 12, at Waialae Country Club, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Cam Davis won the Sony Open Golf Tournament in Hawaii with an 8-under 62 score, giving him a two-shot lead. Despite facing tough winds, he managed to perform well. Playing on a flat but windy Waialae Country Club course felt even better.

Davis stated, “I started figuring out what wasn’t working, what was working, and began to put some consistent shots together. It was very cool to back it up with a really good round.

Taylor Montgomery played six holes before the arrival of 30 mph gusts around the shores near Diamond Head. He managed to score birdies on half of his holes, finishing with an impressive 64.

The Sony Open marked the return of former U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland, who underwent brain surgery on September 18 to remove part of a tumor that was causing fear and anxiety. Woodland had been contemplating the decision to play for the last week or so and found himself getting emotional when his name was announced on the tee.

The wind was so strong that Webb Simpson, among those at 66, had to hit a 5-wood into the 490-yard first hole. Harris English hit one of the day’s best shots on that hole, a bullet of a 3-iron to just inside 10 feet, resulting in one of only nine birdies on the day.

The wind eventually brought thick clouds and light rain, and it became too dark for everyone to finish. Eighteen players didn’t conclude their rounds. Chris Kirk, who won The Sentry last week on Maui and is trying to join Justin Thomas (2017) and Ernie Els (2003) to sweep Hawaii, was among those at 66.
