Alcaraz overtakes Djokovic as the highest-paid tennis player of the year

Carlos Alcaraz continues to expand his profile in the world of tennis with three titles and an Olympic silver medal to his name already this year. That has brought the Murcian both media coverage and numerous sponsorship deals with multinationals, which in turn, has brought him a significant amount of money.

A sum of prize money and endorsement income that has allowed Alcaraz to dethrone Novak Djokovic as the highest-paid tennis player of the year in 2024 according to the ranking prepared by Forbes magazine, which is based on the income of tennis players between the 2023 US Open and this year’s tournament. Alcaraz has overtaken Djokovic with the Serbian only occupying top spot for one year after being in Federer’s shadow until the Swiss player retired in 2022.

How much money has Carlos Alcaraz earned in 2024?

According to Forbes, in 2024 Alcaraz has accumulated total earnings of $42.3 million, of which $10.3 million come from prize money after winning tournaments such as Roland Garros or Wimbledon this season and $32 million from sponsorship contracts that Alcaraz has signed with companies such as Nike, Rolex and BMW.

Forbes highlight that Alcaraz, with his $42.3 million, has become the tennis player who has earned the most money outside of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Naomi Osaka or Rafa Nadal during the 17 years that the magazine has published the list.

For his part, Djokovic falls to second position in the ranking with $37.2 million - despite being the tennis player who has won the most money in sports prizes with $12.2 million for winning the 2023 US Open and the 2024 Australian Open, as a finalist at Wimbledon and gold medalist at the Paris Olympic Games. In addition, Djokovic also received $25 million in sponsorships that he maintains with companies such as Asics, Head, Hublot and Lacoste.

Coco Gauff, the third highest-paid tennis player

Completing the podium of the Forbes ranking is American Coco Gauff, who in 2024 has earned $27.1 million, of which $7.1 million comes from prize money such as her victory at the 2023 US Open and a further $20 million from sponsorships she maintains with brands such as Barilla, Carol’s Daughter, Naked Brand and Fanatics.

Gauff is the highest-paid tennis player on the women’s circuit, surpassing world No.1 Iga Swiatek, who is fourth in the ranking with $26.7 million, although she is the tennis player who has earned the most money in sports prizes with $11.7 million and $15 million in endorsements.

A ranking in which you have to go down to fifth place to find Jannik Sinner, with total earnings of $26.6 million, $11.6 million of which were earned in sports prizes and $15 million in sponsorships with La Roche-Posay, De Cecco, Gucci, Lavazza and Rolex.

Another of the big names in the ranking is Rafa Nadal, in sixth place with earnings of $23.3 million, of which only $300,000 are from sports prizes and $23 million from sponsorships Nadal has with companies such as Kia, Louis Vuitton or the ambassador agreement he reached with Saudi Arabia.

Completing the Forbes ranking are Daniil Medvedev (seventh with earnings of $20.3 million), Naomi Osaka (eighth with earnings of $14.6 million), Casper Ruud (ninth with $13.9 million) and Aryna Sabalenka (tenth with $13.7 million).
