Another Hamilton response to Max Verstappen’s record

Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff have faced significant criticism from fans and pundits for downplaying Max Verstappen’s achievements following the Italian Grand Prix last weekend. Verstappen clinched first place, securing his 10th consecutive win and setting a new all-time record in the process.

“In my personal opinion,” Hamilton told Sky F1, “all my team-mates have been stronger than the teammates Max has had: Jenson, Fernando, George, Valtteri, Nico.

Hamilton has reiterated his belief that he has faced formidable teammates throughout his career.

I’ve had so many. These guys have all been very, very strong, very consistent – and Max has not raced against anyone like that.

Verstappen on Hamilton drama: “a little jealous”

In response, Verstappen labeled Hamilton as “a little jealous” and promptly overtook Carlos Sainz of Ferrari at Monza, claiming his 10th consecutive victory and the Formula 1 record.

Hamilton, who has achieved a maximum of five consecutive wins, dismissed the significance of records.

I mean I don’t care about statistics in general,” he told reporters. “Good for him.”

It was Nico Rosberg who ended Hamilton’s five-race winning streak in 2014 by winning the Brazilian Grand Prix. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted Hamilton’s second run of five consecutive victories.

Little did Hamilton and Mercedes anticipate that in 2021, Verstappen and Red Bull would dominate, with Verstappen ultimately snatching the World Championship title from Hamilton in the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

In the two years since the Abu Dhabi race, Verstappen has claimed victory in 27 out of 36 Grand Prix events, only failing to win four times in his last 25 appearances. Meanwhile, Hamilton has not won a race since 2021.
