The Laver Cup is a prestigious international indoor hard-court men’s team tennis tournament that features an exclusive showdown between Team Europe and Team World. Team World comprises players from all continents except Europe.

The tournament, often called the Ryder Cup of the tennis world, has been held since 2017. It spans three action-packed days with five sessions of intense tennis matches. Typically scheduled two weeks after the US Open, the tournament rotates between various host cities, bringing top-tier tennis to locations that do not normally host ATP Tour events.

The event alternates annually between European cities and cities worldwide, trying to satisfy and display the sport’s global appeal.

The player selection and their ranking at the Laver Cup

The players’ selection goes like this: Three of the six players qualify based on their ATP singles ranking as of the Monday following the French Open in June. Three are “captain’s picks,” announced by the start of the US Open in August. In addition to the guaranteed participation fees, which are based on the players’ ATP rankings, each winning team member gets $250,000 in prize money.

During the competition, no player can compete in singles more than twice over the three days. At least four out of the six players must participate in doubles matches. No doubles combination can be repeated, except for the Decider on Day 3 if the points are tied at 12:12. The winning team must reach 13 points. h 13 points.

Finally, the Laver Cup does not award any points to the players on the ATP rankings. However, the matches do register on the individual head-to-head records between players.
