Behind the curtain with Carlos Alcaraz: What fans don’t usually see
The world No. 1 opens up about life off the court, from who picks up the check to how he travels to tournaments.
Carlos Alcaraz has been showing fans a more personal side in a new social media campaign with Spanish food brand ElPozo, where he serves as a global ambassador and face of the company.
The series, whose title translates to “Unfiltered Curiosities with Carlitos: Alcaraz and His Fans,” features the 22-year-old tennis star sitting down for dinner with supporters who get the rare chance to ask him the kind of questions he doesn’t usually answer in interviews.
In the latest episode, fans hit him with two direct ones: “Do you pay when you go out to eat?” and “You always fly first class, right?”
“I pay, I pay”
Alcaraz, relaxed and smiling as he samples ElPozo’s products, doesn’t dodge the questions.
“I pay, I pay,” he says, laughing. “Sometimes people invite me, but normally, of course, I pay. It’s the logical thing to do.”
Why Alcaraz prefers business class
When it comes to flying, the world No. 1 explains that comfort isn’t about luxury, it’s about performance.
“For long trips, like when I have to fly across the ocean, yeah,” he says. “There’s first class and then business. I always travel business because I need to sleep and rest. If I don’t, I really feel it when I arrive. I’m tired, and it’s hard to recover. For shorter flights, three or four hours, I don’t mind flying regular.”
A grounded champion
The short video series has been a hit with fans, who enjoy seeing Alcaraz’s modest personality and sense of humor away from the court. Between jokes and smiles, the Murcian tennis star reminds everyone that, despite being at the top of the tennis world, he’s still very much down to earth.
