Berlanga provokes Canelo: what did he say about the Mexican?

The Brooklyn native will fight the Mexican superstar in September and things are getting heated between both men, especially after his last comments.

The Brooklyn native will fight the Mexican superstar in September and things are getting heated between both men, especially after his last comments.

Saul Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga will face off on September 14 but their animosity seems quite real and both men already promised to settle the score in the ring.

While Canelo stated he would knock Berlanga out inside eight rounds, the New York-bred fighter hasn’t held back when criticizing the super middleweight king. The younger and undefeated Berlanga will have the opportunity of a lifetime in a month against Alvarez and promised to pull off the upset and take all his belts.

During their second pre-fight press conference, things got a little heated, especially in the traditional face-off, with both men exchanging threats and having to be separated by the security guards.

Berlanga, merciless: what did he say about Canelo?

Canelo has faced criticism for most of his career, accused of cherry-picking opponents and fighting some big names when they were well past their prime.

More recently, fans and pundits accused him of ducking David Benavidez, especially after he said he wouldn’t fight ‘The Mexican Monster’ for less than a $200 million offer.

“You said $200 million. I’m thinking about it like wait, he’s probably not even scared of him”, Berlanga told Fight Hub TV.

“But now after seeing an interview that he did the other day, he [Alvarez] said no he’s a great fighter, he’s dangerous, he’s big, he comes over 20 pounds. He’s the same weight as you at 168 so what does it matter? What does it matter if he jumps up 15 or 20 pounds? You jump up the same weight, bro. Now, he’s p***y. Super p***y”, he added.

Benavidez will probably never fight Alvarez unless the unexpected changes the whole situation. The undefeated fighter from Phoenix decided to move up to light heavyweight after Canelo’s decision not to fight him. Benavidez will hope to challenge the winner of the Dmitry Bivol vs Artur Beterbiev super-clash for the undisputed crown at 175 lbs.
