Bradley: “Terence Crawford would beat Floyd Mayweather”
Hall of Famer Tim Bradley and a boxing analyst stated that ‘Bud’ would have been able to decode Mayweather Jr.’s game and defeat him if they had fought.
Terence Crawford is now taking some time off after his impressive win over Errol Spence Jr. at the end of July when he stopped The Truth in the ninth round after dominating his opponent in Las Vegas.
While most experts and analysts considered the mega bout as a truly 50/50 fight, Crawford was the far superior fighter on that night, even calling out Jermell Charlo while he was sharing the ring with Spence Jr.
The Omaha native wants to make history, and after becoming the first boxer to become undisputed in two different weight classes, he wants to know how it feels to repeat that feat one more time by defeating Mell next.
Crawford’s big win was taken to social media, where boxing fans started wondering if he would have been able to defeat Floyd Mayweather Jr. if they had ever faced each other in the ring.
Bradley: “Crawford would beat Mayweather Jr.”
While many give Money the edge in a hypothetical bout, the former light welterweight and welterweight champion Tim Bradley believes Bud would come out on top in a battle of greats.
“Terence Crawford would beat Floyd Mayweather”, Bradley said to FightHype.
“I’m telling you right now, he would beat him… Crawford, a master thinker just like Floyd, has the advantage that he not only can fight orthodox but is versatile and can fight in the southpaw stance”, he added.
“What happens when you have a guy just as smart as you are and able to make adjustments like Crawford? A guy that’s powerful, quick, and strong like Crawford? A guy that can fight you in the pocket?”, Bradley asked.
“(...) I just think that Crawford would have enough to beat Floyd… He would have enough to gain respect and hurt Floyd too. Crawford, when he touches you, you’re gonna feel it. Timing has a way of beating speed… Crawford has timing. So Floyd could have all the speed in the world, quickness, but the timing of Crawford is what’s different”, he added.
Crawford wants to come back to the ring as soon as possible and Jermell Charlo is his next objective in a fight for all the marbles at light middleweight.
Mell has already expressed that he plans to defeat Canelo at super middleweight in September and then go down in weight again to face and beat Crawford.
