Can Lando Norris clinch the F1 world championship at the Las Vegas Grand Prix?

The 2025 Formula 1 season is entering its final stretch, and with just a few races left, the fight for the 2025 Drivers’ Championship is taking shape. Lando Norris arrives at the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix as the current championship leader, eyeing a crucial victory that could put him closer to the title.

The U.S. hosts its third race of the season in Las Vegas, where the city’s unique street circuit adds excitement and unpredictability. While a strong result in Nevada could shift the championship battle, it would not settle it, as several factors still remain in play.

Vegas victory not enough for Norris

Currently, Norris leads his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri by 24 points (390 to 366), and he sits 49 points ahead of reigning champion Max Verstappen. A win in Las Vegas would extend Norris’ lead - potentially to 49 points over Piastri and 74 over Verstappen - yet with 58 points still available in the remaining races, the championship will be decided in either Qatar (November 30) or Abu Dhabi (December 7).

The math behind the title chase

Norris also has the advantage of consistency. Even if he finishes second in the final three races while Piastri wins each one, Norris would still mathematically stay ahead. In that scenario, Piastri would reach 441 points, while Norris would accumulate 444, with an additional eight points from a Sprint race still up for grabs, potentially a decisive factor in the championship.

Norris could ultimately be crowned in Qatar or Abu Dhabi, but nothing is guaranteed, making the Las Vegas GP a key moment in the 2025 F1 title race.
