Canelo Álvarez to have an easy fight in May and Dmitry Bivol in September
Boxer Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez has declared that he plans to have an easy fight in May as a warm up for a rematch with Dmitry Bivol in September 2023.
Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez has had a better-than-expected rehabilitation after surgery on his left wrist and recently said he would return to the ring in May of next year.
Now, the boxer has been more specific with the plan and indicated in an interview with Izquierdazo that he will start training in January with the goal of a not-so-complicated fight in May that will serve as a warm-up to fight Dmitry Bivol in September.

“Come back in May with a not-so-tough fight to see how I feel. In September, look for a rematch with Bivol, which is the only thing I want”, declared Álvarez. “My idea is to return in May, I’m going to start hitting in January to see how I feel.” The four-division world champion was defeated by Bivol in May this year via unanimous decision.
Regarding his rehabilitation, the 32-year-old boxer said that according to the doctor who operated on him, his arm needed to be in a cast for four weeks, but he only spent one week with his wrist immobilized before beginning rehabilitation. “Right now I feel very good and I hope to return in May.”
Benavidez will beat Plant
When asked about the fight between David Benavidez and Caleb Plant, Álvarez made it clear that he sees the American boxer of Mexican descent as a clear favorite to become the mandatory challenger for the WBC belt.
"It's a very competitive fight, in my opinion I think Benavidez wins," Canelo said.
Benavidez, 25, is 26-0 with 23 fast-track wins. For his part, Plant, 30, boasts a 22-1 record with 13 KOs. His only loss was against Canelo Álvarez.
