Canelo Alvarez vs Dmitry Bivol live online: score card, stats and highlights

Bivol wins unanimous points decision over Canelo Alvarez

Dmitry Bivol defeats Canelo Alvarez to retain his title!

While many may have favored the Mexican coming into this highly anticipated fight, it was clear from the start that it was going to be anything but easy for Canelo. As expected the elite fighter went to work trying to close distance and find a way into the pocket, but Bivol's defense on the night was tip top.

While neither fighter managed to land any show stopping punches on the night, Bivol was boxing in a code that Canelo never seemed to decipher as he continually frustrated the unified champion. For his part Canelo will feel frustrated as his strategy worked to an extent, but as was mentioned before, he was never really able to truly put Bivol in danger.

A well worked boxing match by the fighter from Kyrgyzstan as he displayed just why he's managed to defend his belt for so long.

If you've just joined us then you missed a display of boxing technique at it's finest between two fighters with decidedly different styles. From us here at AS USA, we hope you enjoyed the fight and our coverage of it. With that we wish you a goodnight!

What does Canelo Alvarez have to do to beat Dmitry Bivol

Canelo will need to focus on the set up in this fight. with his jab he can set two options up that will likely cause Bivol a lot of problems, the overhand right and the left hook to the liver. Both tools have been utilized to almost lethal perfection by Alvarez over time. In close quarters Bivol has shown himself to be limited which means he will more than likely try to escape when he finds himself there. That - knowing Canelo - will be taken advantage of without doubt. In the end the key for Canelo will be to get in close, but that's exactly where he likes to be.

It would also be a mistake to not mention the vast difference in experience. With many more fights under his belt - literally - Alvarez will be able to count on a vast reservoir of knowledge which he has compiled by fighting all kinds of top tier competition who possessed a variety of styles.

This of course is all rhetoric, when it comes down to it if Canelo sticks to his guns and trusts in his insane punch precision, the opportunity to test Bivol's chin will come, at which point the only thing that will matter is, can Bivol take a punch?

as.com

What can Dmitry Bivol do to beat Canelo Alvarez?

If Bivol wants to win the strategy is simple. The right hand combined with the jab. Having shown himself to be effective with both, it will be essential to stopping an aggressive counter puncher like Alvarez.

When it comes to that profile of boxer there is nothing they hate more than having to deal with jabs. With that said, Alvaerz is a different breed which is to say a boxer who can still punish his opponents even if he's been made to stop in his path due to a jab.

For Bivol the key will be to use his jab while also being prepared to counter. Of course this is all easy to say when you're not in the ring yourself.

Comparing Canelo and Bivol

In his third fight at 175 pounds Canelo -  the Super middleweight undisputed champion - has moved up a weight class to take on the light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol for his WBA world title. The stakes are high in this one.

Alvarez boasts a record of 57-1-2 with 39 KOs. Having defeated Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant to unify all four major super middleweight titles, the Mexican has his eyes on doing the same at light heavyweight.

On the other side there is Dmitry Bivol who comes into the fight with a record of 19-0 with 11 KOs. He clinched the WBA interim belt back in 2016 and eventually went on to become "super" champion in 2019, a title which he has since defended three times. The guy's not playing around.belt.

Expectations are high for Canelo vs Bivol

as.com

Does Canelo Alvarez has Heavyweight ambitions?

With a record that reads 57-1-2, 39 KOs, Canelo Alvarez is more than a force to be reckoned with. Indeed, the Mexican champion is as good as they come or have ever been. When questioned as to 'what next?' the elite fighter was surprisingly direct, when he actually expressed an interest in a heavyweight title fight with Oleksandr Usyk at a 201-pound catchweight, Say what now? Though the idea may seem like fantasy or even a bit tongue in cheek, the reality is Alvarez has proven time and again that he's willing to take on opponents at different weights.

"I like it," he said, "...Why not? ...I'll fight everyone. I don't f---ing care."

Were Canelo to get his wish and in turn win, it would be unprecedented for a fighter of his size. For perspective, it was Roy Jones Jr. who won a heavyweight title back in 2003 after claiming his first title at 160 pounds. Alvarez made his pro debut at 139 pounds and went on to claim titles at 154, 160, 168 and 175. Could he be on to something?

Canelo Alvarez vs Dmitry Bivol!

It's fight night and we've got a match-up for the ages. The Mexican is attempting to make history but in his path is an opponent who is as tough as they come!

as.com

Canelo looks to write his name into the pages of Boxing history!

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is the undisputed super-middleweight champion of the world, a four-weight world titleholder, boxing's hottest commodity and generally speaking, one bad man.

Indeed, as the pound-for-pound #1 fighter in the sport today, one can expect the Mexican to give no quarter when the bell goes tonight.

With that said Canelo faces perhaps one of the most difficult opponents he's ever met in the man from Kyrgystan. Undefeated in his professional career so far, Bivol is the WBA (Super) light-heavyweight champion.
