Canelo Alvarez vs Jaime Munguia fight format: rounds, weigh-in, rules...
The Guadalajara native will step into the ring to take on fellow countryman Munguia in a fight where all the super middleweight marbles will be on the line.
Saul Alvarez and Jaime Munguia are making the final preparations before meeting inside the ring in what is expected to be a violent affair between two Mexican warriors.
The clash will be held at T-Mobile Arena, in Vegas, with Canelo being a big favorite to defend his undisputed status against the younger, undefeated Munguia.
Alvarez has the experience advantage and can adapt during his fights if something doesn’t go as planned. However, he knows the danger the Tijuana native brings to the table.
“He is a very hungry fighter who throws a lot of punches, a strong fighter who is hungry, and I think that makes him a dangerous fighter who is going to leave everything in the ring. Of course, it worries me”, he said recently.
Meanwhile, a confident and motivated Munguia explained that he’s fully focused on the fight and his goal next Saturday. “I respect Canelo as a fighter, but I’m coming for my titles,” he said in an interview with DAZN.
Canelo vs Munguia fight format
Both men will go head-to-head in an all-Mexican war in a 12, three-minute rounds fight. There won’t be a three-knockdown rule, so if a fighter goes to the canvas on three or more occasions the clash will continue unless the referee decides to stop it.
The clash will be sanctioned inside the 168-pound limit, as it will be a super middleweight showdown, and Canelo’s WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO belts will be on the line.
There will be no advantages in the fight for the champion, as there’s no rehydration clause for Munguia. However, there’s another type of condition, a rematch clause. That means that if Alvarez tasted defeat on the Cinco de Mayo weekend, he would be able to activate it and close an immediate rematch fight with his opponent.
