Canelo Álvarez will enter the ring lighter than Gennady Golovkin
In two of the three fights between Canelo and Golovkin, the Kazakh has entered the ring heavier. In their first fight they registered the same weight.
The latest details of the fight between Canelo Álvarez and Gennady Golovkin have been released and both fighters have beaten the scale. All that’s left is to fight it out on Saturday, Sept. 17.
In a ceremony held at Toshiba Plaza, located in front of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Canelo and GGG got on the scale. According to BoxRec, the Mexican dropped a weight of 167.5 pounds. For his part, the Asian weighed 167.75 pounds. Matchroom reports 167.4 pounds for Canelo and 167.8 for Golovkin.
For the second time in three fights between Golovkin and Canelo, the Kazakh will step into the ring heavier. In 2018, when they met for the second time, GGG weighed in at 159.75 pounds while Canelo recorded 159.5 pounds.
In their first confrontation the scales were even. Both boxers weighed 160 pounds.

After the weigh-in, Canelo returned to attacking Golovkin and warned that he will defeat GGG by way of chloroform. “I know I have a great fighter in front of me, I want to do it before the 12th round, but I will look for him from the first. Thanks to my fans for being here and I hope you enjoy a great fight tomorrow”, he said to Izquierdazo.com.
On the other hand, Golovkin took the opportunity to congratulate the Aztec people on the 212th anniversary of Mexico’s independence and assured that Canelo is a paper champion. “For all Mexicans, congratulations, it is a very special day for them, congratulations to all of you. And if they are true boxing fans, they know who the true champion is”, he said to the same website.
