The trilogy fight between Saúl Canelo Álvarez and Gennady Golovkin is set to take place on 17 September at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Kazakhstan boxer has a record of 42 wins one draw and one defeat.

The only defeat in Golovkin’s professional career was against Canelo Álvarez in 2018 in the rematch fight that also took place in Las Vegas. During the press conference prior to the fight the 40-year-old said that Canelo is not the toughest opponent he’s had in his career.

The amateur fighters were tougher

I wouldn’t say that Canelo is the best fighter I fought but he is a world class athlete and a very difficult opponent. I am talking about opponents I fought before I became a professional. Those fighters had great abilities and great strategies, it was crazy,” said Golovkin.

Gennady Golovkin fought 37-amateur fights and he lost six times. The Kazakhstan boxer won the gold medal in the 2024 Olympic Games in Athens and after that tournament he became a professional.
