Carlos Alcaraz defeats Cameron Norrie to win the Argentina Open
The Spanish star won his first title after lifting the US Open trophy last year and missing the Australian Open due to a hamstring injury.
He proved to be a real menace on hard courts, but he has shown he can dominate his opponents on clay too.
Carlos Alcaraz won his first tournament of the season by defeating Cameron Norrie in two sets in the final of the Argentina Open (6-3, 7-5).
The youngest ever world No. 1 lost the top position in the ATP rankings in favor of Novak Djokovic due to a hamstring injury that kept him out of the competition for a few months, including the first Grand Slam tournament of the calendar, the Australian Open.
“I knew that it was going to be really difficult. I started really focused on what I had to do at the beginning, my game, my level. This is the level that I have to play in finals”, Alcaraz said.
“I’d like to congratulate Norrie for a great week. You are an amazing player, a really, really tough player to play, and the most important part [is that] you are one of the best guys on [the] tour”, he said to the Brit.
Alcaraz, seen as the potential biggest star of the Next Gen, will play in the Rio de Janeiro tournament next, where he will face Brazilian Mateus Alves.
