Chris Eubank Jr and Canelo Alvarez in negotiations for possible bout in September
In the latest twist the the Canelo Álvarez tale, it is now reported that Chris Eubank Jr has entered into negotiations for a bout in September
One of the biggest psycho-dramas of boxing is the eternal question, “Who will Canelo fight next?” The undisputed king of the super middleweights is also the current king of pay-per-view. Sitting atop the moolah pile makes Canelo every boxer’s favorite opponent and gives him an incredibly powerful platform to anoint a fighter with a ton of money.
“Here you are my son, my good and faithful opponent. Have enough to see you right for the rest of your life,” Canelo seems to say.
Amidst all of the speculation about whether Canelo will fight Edgar Berlango or Jermall Charlo next, and all of the cries and hand-wringing over why he seems uninterested in facing people’s favorite David Benavidez or mandatory William Scull, there is now a twist to the tale.
It is being reported that Chris Eubank Jr has now entered into negotiations with Álvarez and what is more, that he looks like the frontrunner for a bout in September.
Eubank is a former middleweight world champion and is 33-3 with 24 knockouts. He is coming off of a successful rematch with Liam Smith, a previous Canelo opponent.
Fans seem less than impressed with the news, but as long as Canelo ignores Benavidez, everyone else, no matter who they are, will be a step down. Let’s see how this develops.
