Update:

For the fourth time in her young career, Coco Gauff has progressed to the round of 16 stage at the U.S. Open.

She been No. 28 seed Magdalena Frech 6-3, 6-1 on Saturday, putting aside earlier concerns about her serving. In the previous round victory over Donna Vekic she double-faulted seven times, but that dropped to four against Frech.

The world No. 3 is expected to challenge for the championship again at Flushing Meadows and was full of confidence after her latest win.

Overall I’m really happy with how I played and to be through to the next round,” Gauff said after completing the third round victory.

“It’s been an emotional week ... but I think I needed those tough moments to be able to move forward,” Gauff added. “I was putting so much pressure on myself, but I’m really out here just trying to enjoy it and not focus so much on results, but the process, and I think today showed that I was really having fun out there.”

Still only 21 years old, Gauff is now a two-time Major champions and has an impressive record at Flushing Meadows. She won the tournament as a 19-year-old in 2023 and added the French Open title earlier this year, beating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
