Contracts are in: Davis Garcia fight needs “finishing touches”
Golden Boy Boxing announces that they have the contract for the Davis Garcia fight, just adding finishing touches for an April 15 bout
All parties have had the will for several months now, pending a tune-up fight for Davis. Gervonta decisively stopped Hector Luis Garcia in the ninth round on January 7, and with that out of the way, the only thing standing in the way of the April 15 bout between Davis and Ryan Garcia is the contracts.
Now Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya announced that he has now received a contract and that the fight was nearly made. De La Hoya’s social media contained a picture of himself and Garcia and a caption saying, “Devil’s in the details.”
Over the weekend, Golden Boy seemed frustrated at the lack of progress on the deal, announcing that if a contract was not forthcoming, that Garcia’s camp were prepared to walk away from the table. The 23-0 Garcia has 19 KOs and is the strongest challenger to Davis. The champ is 28-0 with 26 KOs and while the venue has not yet been disclosed, it is expected that the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will host.
Garcia was scheduled to have his own tune up fight against Filipino southpaw Mercito Gesta, but opted out saying that he was only interested in the Davis bout. If the fight goes ahead on April 15, it will be nine months since Garcia has stepped into the ring.
His last outing was back in July when he knocked out Javier Fortuna, only his second fight following a 15-month stretch of inactivity. Once the finishing touches are put onto the contract, it looks like nothing can stop the bout from going ahead.
