Deontay Wilder has starred in one of the biggest scandals so far this year and this has sparked concerns over what it could mean for his next headline-making bout.

Wilder arrested then released on bail

The heavyweight boxer with a record of 43-2-1, 42 KO was arrested early Tuesday morning for possession of a firearm and marijuana. According to TMZ, the Los Angeles Police Department found the weapon in his car during a routine traffic check. The Bronze Bomber had to post $35,000 bail.

The fighter was said to be pulled over for having an obstructed license plate and “illegally tinted windows.” According to the outlet, Wilder was “cooperative and nice” during the arrest. He posted the $35,000 bail and was released five hours later. It is not yet known what charges could fall on the heavyweight. California’s gun laws are very strict, and federal law makes it illegal for anyone to purchase a gun while carrying marijuana or illegal substances.

Deontay tweets after arrest

We didn’t have to wait long to get a response from Wilder that appeared to address the incident. “I’d rather be safe than sorry. The End,” the American posted in a tweet.

Wilder vs Joshua or another?

Federal authorities haven’t yet been involved but if they do it could be a big problem for the boxer, with mixing firearms and drugs deemed a serious issue.

The big talk has been that Wilder is lined up for a 2023 heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua and the concerns now are that this incident could impact on the negotiations for the fight. We’ll be keeping a close eye on developments and will bring you more as it is revealed.
