Crawford says he will move up to fight Canelo if he beats Charlo

‘Bud’ wants to keep making history and become a three-time undisputed world champion, he admitted on the The Joe Rogan Show podcast.

Terence Crawford has changed his mind. Some days ago he planned to face Jermell Charlo at light middleweight once he meets Canelo on September 30, but now he wants to make history regardless of weight and opponent.

Crawford, who recently dismantled Errol Spence Jr. in an impressive display of skills for welterweight supremacy, doesn’t seem very interested in staying in that division and wants bigger challenges soon.

The undefeated and undisputed champion was too strong for Spence Jr., who couldn’t match Crawford’s boxing IQ. The Truth, who never tasted defeat, suffered his first loss via TKO in the ninth round after going to the canvas a few times during the fight.

Crawford, looking for GOAT status

While some seem to start including Terence Crawford in the list of the boxing all-time greats, the Omaha native wants to leave the sport being one of the very best ever, leaving no doubt on any boxing fans or pundits.

I’m already in there, in the discussions. What would they say [the critics/boxing experts] though? Three-time undisputed champion, and the smaller fighter who went up three weight divisions, to conquer one of the baddest men besides himself, that’s been doing it probably longer than me”, he said on the Joe Rogan Show podcast.

168, yeah, Canelo, if he wins (on September 30 against Jermell Charlo), or Charlo. I wanna be three-time undisputed. I’d definitely have to gain weight. I just believe in my abilities. Canelo’s not a big guy. He’s big, muscular-wise, but as far as height, nah”, he continued.

Crawford, 35, is aware that he won’t be in the sweet science for a long time, and wants to make the most of it as long as his journey lasts.

If Canelo emerged victorious against Mell, and Crawford decided to challenge the Mexican star at super middleweight, that would translate into going from 140 lbs to 168 lbs.

Should Crawford do it? Would it be worth bulking up that much in search of glory while there’s a huge risk? While it’s difficult to answer those questions, it seems that Terence prefers to set ambitious goals rather than play it safe.
