Diego Schwartzman: “We have a chance to be the bad guys”
The Argentinian tennis player for Team World talks about the opportunity to beat Team Europe in the Laver Cup.
World No. 17, Argentinian tennis player Diego Schwarzman is competing in the Laver Cup for Team World for the third time. He competed in Chicago in 2018 and Boston in 2021. Now, he’ll compete in London against a Team Europe that consists of legends like Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.
A reporter asked Schwartzman if he was going to be Team Europe’s Kryptonite, referring to the fact that Schwartzman said it was like playing a team of superheroes.
“We are on the other side of the net and we want to beat them,” said Schwartzman. “We have a chance to beat and be the bad guys this time here in London.”
Schwartzman will compete alongside Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz, Alex De Minaur, Frances Tiafoe, and Jack Sock for Team World. He’ll also have the chance to spend some time with one of his personal heroes, John McEnroe, who is the Team World captain.
“I really trust in these guys and I think we have the chance,” said Schwarzman. “We have to improve from last year and try to do much better, and I have the chance.”
