Djokovic advances to the Wimbledon final after defeating Sinner
The Serb, looking for his eighth title, reached the last round at the All England Club after beating Jannik Sinner in straight sets.
Novak Djokovic showed again his best tennis against Jannik Sinner at Centre Court to get a ticket to the Wimbledon final.
The match was quite tight but the world No. 1 proved again too solid in the most important moments to break his opponent’s serve in the first two sets and take the tiebreaker in the third and last one, 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7-4).
Djokovic, who’s looking to win his fifth consecutive Wimbledon title and his 24th major of his career, faced a couple of break points when the Italian was up 5-4 in the third set, but Nole managed to save them both to end up winning the match.
It will be a record 35th Grand Slam final appearance for Djokovic, surpassing the tally he shared with American Chris Evert.
Unbeatable at Centre Court
The Serb, who hasn’t lost a game at Centre Court since 2013, admitted that Sinner pushed him to the limit throughout the match.
“In the semi-finals, it was always going to be a very close and very tense match”.
“That was the case and the scoreline doesn’t give the reality of what was happening on the court. It was super close”, he added.
He also complimented his rival’s talent and the fact he was competing at his very best during the whole game.
“Jannik has proven why he is one of the leaders of the next generation and one of the best players in the world”.
“I tried not to look at age as a hindrance or a factor of the outcome. I guess 36 is the new 26″, Djokovic concluded.
The Serb is looking to win Wimbledon and the US Open in the very same season, something that hasn’t been accomplished since 1969.
