Djokovic equals Steffi Graf record: 377th weeks as world No.1
Steffi Graf’s record for the most weeks spent as the world number one has been equalled by Novak Djokovic.
Novak Djokovic reached another milestone, making history once again as he started his 377th week as world number one on Monday - equivalent to over seven years at the top. The Serbian has won 22 major titles during his career - the joint-most in the men’s category, and has long since held the record for the most weeks at the top of the ATP rankings. His nearest rival on the men’s tour, since the rankings were introduced in 1973, is Roger Federer, who spent a total of 310 weeks in top spot. Federer however, announced his retirement back in September so Djokovic can relax in the knowledge that his record is safe for now.

Djokovic has also matched Steffi Graf, the WTA leader, in making it to 377 weeks in pole position. Graf was the women’s number one 45 weeks longer than second-placed Martina Navratilova (332), Serena Williams in third (319), Chris Evert (260) and Martina Hingis (209). The 22-time Slam champion holds both both the longest consecutive streak and the most accumulated total weeks atop the rankings.
The WTA rankings began in 1975.
