Djokovic: “No one is invincible”

The Serb maestro proved Australia is one of his favorites venues after winning another title there, this time in Adelaide.

Game, set, and match Novak Djokovic. A winning symphony that tennis fans are used to listen when the Serb star enters the Australian courts to face his opponent.

Nole made his return to the country after being deported days before the start of the Australian Open last year for not being Covid19 vaccinated.

Djokovic needed to perform at his A-level to emerge victorious in the Adelaide tournament final against American Sebastian Korda in three tight sets (6-7, 7-6, 6-4).

Despite winning his last 34 matches in a row in Australia and 77 of his last 80 in the country, the former No.1 said after the match that “no one is invincible”.

However, he admitted that in any case, he will always put on a fight until the last ball to make their opponents aware that they will need to be psychologically at their best to get away with the win:

“I want them to know that regardless of the scoreline, I’m always there, I’m always fighting till the last shot, and I’m able to turn things around”.

The Serb superstar probably said so after having to save a match point against Korda and following his recent defeat in the Paris Masters against Holger Rune.

Djokovic vs Nadal: the battle goes on

However, Djokovic knows that the Australian Open is his favorite Grand Slam tournament, as its surface fits his game perfectly, and will be looking to lift the title for the 10th time in his career.

Another win in the tournament would see him move level with Rafael Nadal on 22 majors and would make things even tighter between two of the greatest tennis players ever. Moreover, he would overtake the Spaniard in tournaments won in his career, as they are now both tied with 92 trophies.

Although the Nadal-Roland Garros dominance is unmatched in tennis history, Djokovic’s supremacy at the Australian Open is remarkable, as he has won the title nine times, three clear of Roy Emerson and Roger Federer in joint-second place.

Because of his rivalry with Nadal and last year’s deportation, Djokovic -who last lost in Melbourne against Chung Hyeon in 2018- will likely be looking to go all the way more than ever.
